Where’s this from?
Amber, it’s from Jane Elliott’s blue-eye brown-eye experiment simulating racism for whites. Here’s the link! Jane Elliott - The Angry Eye
we did this in my elementary school
yeah

Just watched the whole video, excellent. Wish schools here did this in primary school. Many Australians are incredibly racist (in subtle and unsubtle ways), and refuse to accept that they’re spouting anything but fact. I’m not talking bogans on the bus either, I mean supposedly “educated” people, in good jobs, who have the intellectual means to analyse their views for prejudice - but cannot (or will not) comprehend that it exists beyond blatant verbal or physical attacks.
(Would have liked the video to go into more of the systematic ways people are discriminated against, because the aforementioned people wouldn’t consider themselves racist/sexist/homophobic/classist/mental-illness-ist*/etc. etc. since they don’t use slurs - well, at least not to their faces! - but at the same time entirely deny their privileges, and deny how those privileges significantly contributed to achieving what they have done. Other people just didn’t work as hard!)
As I just put on FB (LOL, can’t wait for my 0 likes), “I can think of more than a few choice people that could do with this lesson in understanding their inherent privileges, and the way in which the world is geared to work against those without them.”
*To the 3 people that might read this - let me know if there’s an actual word to describe prejudice against people with mental illness… Also I got a spelling error for ‘classism’, if that’s not a real thing I mean discrimination against poor (or poor-er) people, basically.
